Star Tea and Scones

Yesterday I started playing with a recipe for peach scones and also got to try out the new cookie cutters Jaime gave me for my birthday! The result: some very yummy butterfly and owl pastries, lightly glazed with frosting:

Up next I think I'll work on perfecting a recipe for cinnamon scones (one of my favorite kinds!). The trick for moist scones I've found is buttermilk. That stuff works wonders. My mom and I were thinking the other day about how fun it would be to host a tea party sometime! Yes, we're both still little girls at heart.

Yesterday I also did a "Kelsey's favorite things of summer" shot.

Featured:
-Deborah Lippman nailpolish in "Prelude to a Kiss" and "Dream a little Dream of Me"
-Rouge CoCo Chanel Shine in Monte-Carlo lipstick
-Miss Dior Cherie
-Fresh gardenia blossom
-Embroidery
-Charlie II owl mug
-Green tea and bunny grahams
-Jane Eyre and Mrs. Dalloway
-Hair comb
-Watercolors

I've been very much enjoying my hot tea despite it being summer. It's a nice way to re-energize or relax (depending on whether it's caffeinated or not). Hot tea and fruit: what an odd combination, huh? But, that's been my diet. That and lots of carbs (as per usual).

The new book is coming along slowly but surely. I hope to have it done by the end of the summer (secret realistic goal=Christmas). But, I have a lot I want to get done by the end of the summer. It's just so hard to find inspiration and motivation most days. That's why reading and embroidery are nice: they require neither yet are still fun, productive activities.

Over-Due Update

Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted! In all truth, I totally forgot that I even had a blog. Sad, no? But, in updating the website (http://www.flaxandkite.com) I found this and wa-la!

I'm currently working on finishing up a large elven gown commission. It's a white and silver Arwen-style gown, covered in beading and embroidery of snowdrops. It looks like it could be a wedding gown, so that's probably how I'll list it. Anyway, I'm on the corset right now and after that and making a few adjustments to the main gown, it'll be finished! So, pictures of that are to come, but you can see some of the embroidery/designs on the main site in the embroidery gallery.

So hopefully more updates will come soon! (I'll try harder, promise!)

Commissions

So, I've been working on commissions lately. To the right is a reversible elven bodice commission I just finished for a photographer looking to do an elven-type shoot. I know my photograph isn't great, but this outer cloth is SO SHINY.

I've also been working on a big elven gown commission. Right now I'm trying to finalize the embroidery designs, so I'll post pictures of my test runs soon.

New Site and Embroidery

So I've been working hard to redo all of my company/design stuff under the Flax and Kite name, and have just now finished a basic version of the new website! I figured it was about time I had a personal website for everything, rather than going through DeviantArt and Etsy.

You can find the site at: http://www.FlaxandKite.com
Oh yeah, and I totally ordered new business cards too (finally!).

AND

I just got an embroidery machine, so I now offer custom embroidery! That includes commissions, pre-made things (like shirts and handkerchiefs), etc. The neato hawk and Tudor rose above was designed by me and embroidered by my new machine :D

It's far too late, and I really shouldn't still be up...

Faerie Princess Shoot

Yesterday I had the pleasure to shoot my new faerie princess costume...at an actual castle! Castle McCulloch was built in the early 1800s and still stands as a wonderful event venue in the middle of NC. I met up there with bunches of great photographers, and some other costumed models, and a good time was had by all (despite the heat!).

This costume began as a waterlily faerie outfit, but I got a bit carried away with the pink and glitter... Sooo I was able to fulfill my childhood dream of getting to be a faerie AND a princess! ^_^ Now my entire sewing room is covered in glitter. What a wonderful problem to have!

I'll post more photos later~

Deerskin Coat Mock-Up

To balance out the super girly and glittery faerie costume, I'm also working on a black deerskin coat for faire and steampunk events this year. This is a mock up of the bodice of the coat (the hem isn't the right length and the sleeves aren't shown).

I'm just waiting for my deerskin to get in so that I can start making this! The design is based off of an Elizabethan men's doublet, which I've always thought looked cool.
